3. Managing Seasons of Change
Renee Richard Snider, Louisiana State University
Description:
Changes in freshmen housing requirements, raised admission standards, new developments on and off campus, and even natural disasters can affect the plans you have made for housing on your campus. At LSU, we experienced all of this in one year, resulting in a drastic swing of numbers. This program was developed to take a look at strategies for managing occupancy in times of change and lessons learned when those changes occur suddenly.

3. Facebook, Myspace, Blogging: Are Students Only Seeing face Value?
Description:
On many campuses, issues with free speech, safety and discipline cases have exploded with the rise in popularity of Facebook.com, Myspace, and other on-line networking tools. Many students use on-line sites as “social guides,” however, there are other students that are not so responsible in their use. In this session we will be discussing how schools are addressing the myriad of issues raised with on-line networking tools. It will include information about these on-line hotspots including their growing popularity, a review of current legal action, definitions and vocabulary, and safety issues that every student and college administrator should know. There are several pros and many cons to on-line networking tool usage. There will also be an opportunity to brainstorm how these on-line sites can be used in positive ways on campus.
Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop computer to the session if possible.
(Please bring a copy of your institution’s Student Code of Conduct for reference in creating an institutional response.)
