| Before Donating | FAQ's |


Before donating:
• get a good night's sleep
• drink plenty of fluids in the 24 hours before donating
• eat a good meal one to four hours before donating and don't skip breakfast
• become familiar with the donation process before going to the blood drive

At the blood drive:
• bring to the blood drive a picture ID and a list of any medications you are taking
• answer some questions about health and lifestyle choices
• receive a mini-physical: blood pressure, temperature, pulse and iron level
• RELAX while your arm is cleaned with antiseptic. A new, sterile, disposable needle will be inserted into the arm by a trained phlebotomist.
• tell the phlebotomist immediately if you have any odd feelings—lightheadedness, hot or cold sensations, fatigue or pain.

After donating:
•sit and enjoy refreshments for a few minutes
•drink plenty of fluids
•avoid heavy lifting for 5 hours
•leave arm bandage on for 3 to 5 hours
•don't skip meals!
