Performance Leadership
Program Description
The performance Leadership Development Program is a semester long leadership development program designed to provide managers, supervisors and program managers the tools and interpersonal skills they need to effectively do their job. "Hard" skills such as industry knowledge help managers get their work done. However, it is the interpersonal skills that define how well managers do their job. Often, these skills are underestimated in their importance to managing and leading people or teams Interpersonal skills enable managers to build, develop, and lead employees and teams to perform effectively.
- Developing Teams – ability to establish clear; shared goals for team; develop a sense of commitment; and work to resolve interpersonal issues
- Communication - clearly conveying a message and listening for understanding
- Hiring The Right People - developing a systematic approach to interview and evaluate candidates, and making good hiring decisions based on the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for a particular job
- Giving and Receiving Feedback - giving constructive and timely feedback on performance
- Coaching - enabling self-sufficiency in employees to make decisions and take action
- Leading - determining employees' competence and commitment to perform specific tasks and matching the correct leadership style to the situation
- Negotiation - developing an agreement that satisfies both parties interests to the greatest extent possible.
- Ethics - making decisions that reflect individual and organizational responsibility in regards to products, services and relationships with stakeholders.
- Leading Change in Organizations – developing a plan for leading and sustaining a commitment to organizational change
This certification program focuses on interpersonal skills and knowledge areas, necessary for any manager to lead effective employee or team performance.
Who should attend?
Full time NC State University Managers, Supervisors, Program Managers and Project Managers
Preferred Experience
Prior management or supervisory experience or project team leader experience.
Program Cost
$325 per participant
Required Courses for Certification
(Course number PL100001)
Each participant will automatically be registered for all of the required courses listed below upon confirmation of space availability. Once enrolled in the program, a notification containing a list of dates, times and locations for all sessions will be sent to each participant. All courses take place on Wednesdays on a bi-weekly basis.
