Flu Shot Clinics Scheduled for 2008
Flu season is right around the corner and nationwide, outbreaks have been responsible for an average of approximately 36,000 deaths per year, not to mention the enormous health care costs and lost work time. Getting a flu shot is a great way to protect yourself from the flu.
BCBSNC and the State Health Plan are joining forces again this year to offer free flu shots to members, dependents and retirees of the State Health Plan and any other plan administered by BlueCross/BlueShield of NC. To help ensure we have enough nurses and staff on hand, please register yourself and dependents who will receive the flu vaccination. Then, simply present your SHP ID card and picture ID when you visit the clinic.
The vaccination is available for $30, to those who are not covered by the State Health Plan or another BCBSNC plan. The contracted flu shot provider (Maxim Healthcare Services) will accept cash, checks or Medicare Part B (no co-pay required).
Children must be at least age 9, and those between the ages of 9 and 17 must have a parent/guardian present. Expecting women in the first trimester must have a prescription to receive the flu shot; women in their 2nd or 3rd trimesters may receive the flu vaccination without a prescription.
If you have any concerns about the side effects of the flu
vaccine or whether you should take the shot, please visit
