Disability Insurance

The State of NC defines a disability as the mental or physical incapacity for the further performance of duty (the usual occupation). In the event that you become disabled and are unable to continue working, the University offers employer sponsored and optional disability plans. The University participates in the State sponsored disability program. The State’s disability plan is available at no cost to employees working at least three-quarter time for 9-months per year and who participates in either the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) or the Teachers’ and State Employees Retirement System (TSERS). Additionally, supplemental (employee paid) disability plans are also available to employees working at least three-quarter time for 9-months per year.
